The First DA42 Multi-Purpose Platform for Laserscanning Delivered to Romania at ILA 2008 in Berlin
The Romanian Surveying Company Primul Meridian took over their DA42 MPP laserscanning aircraft during the ILA 2008 in Berlin. Ing. Wolfgang Grumeth, Managing Director of Diamond Airborne Sensing GmbH personally handed over keys and documents to Mr. Glont, Managing Director of Primul Meridian. The first Romanian DA42 MPP aircraft is equipped with Riegl Dual Laserscanning and IGI Flight Guidance / Geopositioning System in combination with a Midsize Digicam.
Laser scanning technology is a new and highly accurate method of surveying and it is applied in fields such as catastrophe prevention and flood, avalanche, landslide and rockslide area mapping. This revolutionary technology is also applied in the planning and building of highways, railways, pipelines and power lines.
The worldwide request for geographic survey is constantly rising, especially in countries like Romania, where the economic growth rate is enormously high and up-to-date data for cartographic purposes is urgently needed.
As always, innovative companies are the first to catch the wave of innovative solutions. By choosing the fully equipped DA42 MPP Primul Meridian has proved to be a pioneer, both in the whole Eastern European region and in the geodetic world in general by focusing on digital technologies.
Diamond Airborne Sensing wants to express its thank to Primul Meridian for their trust. The Romanian Survey Company has been the first customer in the Eastern European region who decided to purchase the aircraft even before the certification had been achieved.
As Primul Meridian has shown a very high order backlog ever since signing the contract, Diamond Airborne Sensing has already accomplished several airborne surveys for the company with one of its demonstrator aircraft.
The quality of the data which have been acquired during these flights has been fully convincing both the Romanian surveyor as well as his end-users.
Diamond Airborne Sensing is convinced of presenting a superior package, considering the main advantages of the DA42 MPP/sensor package: worldwide fuel availability, unbeatably low operating costs and low noise signature. (http://www.diamond-air.at/news_detail+M55485832417.html)

Primul Meridian Purchases Microsoft UltraCamLp
Graz, Austria — November 29, 2011 — Primul Meridian, a surveying and mapping firm based in Romania, has contracted with Microsoft’s UltraCam business unit and subsidiary, Vexcel Imaging GmbH, to purchase anUltraCamLp digital aerial photogrammetric camera system.
“Primul Meridian sees demand for digital aerial imagery in Romania growing over the next few years, so the time is right to augment our collection capabilities,” said Cristian Glont Dinu, General Manager, Primul Meridian. “The UltraCamLp will allow the firm to increase its production of high-quality photogrammetric surveys and maps and better serve our customers."
Primul Meridian will be using the UltraCamLp system for photogrammetric mapping and cadastral projects throughout Romania. The new camera will be used in conjunction with a dual laser scanner and a smaller footprint digital sensor, currently mounted on a Diamond DA42 MPP aircraft. The smaller form factor of the UltraCamLp system compared to that of the larger image footprint UltraCamXp systems, allows it to fit more easily alongside the company’s existing data acquisition technologies—also a factor for Primul Meridian in choosing the UltraCamLp.
“Microsoft is dedicated to providing our customers with aerial mapping systems that meet their specific needs,” said Alexander Wiechert, Microsoft Business Director. “We are pleased that Primul Meridian selected the UltraCamLp after a thorough review.”
About the UltraCamLp
The UltraCamLp combines innovative hardware, electronics and software that result in a light and compact camera system. The camera collects five spectral bands per exposure: red, green, blue and near-infrared data, in addition to the higher-resolution panchromatic data. The UltraCamLp features an image footprint collection capacity of 92 megapixels (11,704 x 7,920 pixels pan), made possible through advanced electronics and a CCD array of just 6 ìm. The system is ideal for smaller large-scale and photogrammetric projects, high-resolution (true) orthophoto production, DSM (digital surface model) production, aerotriangulation, ortho mapping and 3D technical vector mapping.
About Microsoft’s UltraCam Business Unit
With its operations based in Graz, Austria, and sales and support teams in North America, Microsoft’s Photogrammetry Division brings more than two decades of photogrammetry expertise to Microsoft’s Bing Mapsbusiness unit. The division is responsible for the highly successful line of UltraCam digital aerial mapping systems that include the UltraCamLp, UltraCamXp and UltraCamXp Wide Angle and the new UltraCam Eagle digital photogrammetric sensors. Rounding out the UltraCam mapping systems offering is the UltraMap workflow software system that provides an automated project-based color balancing module and additional quality control tools.
